Florence airport to city centre: trains, buses, taxis and costs

Florence sits on the central Oregon coast, roughly midway between Eugene and Newport. There is no airport in town, so the trip is a road leg from a bigger city. The table below compares the realistic choices; confirm times and prices before booking because coastal schedules change with the season.

From Eugene Airport, the drive is straightforward: take Oregon Route 126 west through the Coast Range to Florence. The road is two lanes in places and can be slow behind trucks or RVs, so allow 1 h 15 min in good conditions and more in rain or fog. Rental cars are available at the airport, and this is the easiest way to reach the coast if you also want to stop at places like Newport or Lincoln City on the way.

From Portland International, the fastest route is Interstate 5 south to Salem, then Oregon Route 22 west to the coast and south on US 101. That is about 3 h without traffic; Portland rush hour can add 30–45 min. An alternative is US 26 west from Portland to US 101, which is similar in time and more scenic but slower in winter weather.

If you would rather not drive, shuttle and van services run between the Willamette Valley and the coast, and intercity buses connect Eugene and other towns with Florence. Schedules are limited, often one or two runs a day, and some services do not operate every day. Book ahead and confirm the pickup point, which may be a park-and-ride or a hotel rather than the airport terminal.

There is no passenger train to Florence. Amtrak serves Eugene, and from there you would still need a bus, shuttle or car for the final leg. For most visitors, the car is the practical answer.

Rental cars are the biggest variable. Expect US$45–110 a day for a compact or midsize car in Oregon, plus insurance, fuel and any one-way drop fee if you pick up in Eugene and return in Portland. Fuel on the coast is usually a little more expensive than inland. Shuttle fares are typically per person and cheaper for groups travelling together; buses are the cheapest option but the least flexible. Taxis and ride-hailing from Eugene are possible but expensive, and availability late at night is limited, so arrange a ride in advance if you arrive on a late flight.
