Fada
Use Fada as a one-night stop to visit the Guelta d'Archei, not a base: half a day for the guelta, then onward to Faya or N'Djamena.
Fada is a Saharan outpost on the Ennedi Plateau, the gateway to the Guelta d'Archei — a desert waterhole with Nile crocodiles and ancient rock art. The town itself has little to detain you; most travellers arrive in the afternoon, visit the guelta at dawn, and leave the same day or the next morning.

- Mobile network coverage is patchy; download maps and offline translation before you arrive.
- The guelta is a protected site: do not disturb the crocodiles or remove any artefacts.
- Check your government travel advice for Chad before planning any trip.
Fada is remote and safe relative to other parts of Chad, but the desert is unforgiving: travel with a guide, carry extra water and fuel, and register with your embassy. Check travel advice before you go.
