Euroa
Stop for 2–3 hours on the Hume, or one night if you want the Ned Kelly sites: Euroa is a break, not a destination.
Euroa is a small Victorian town on the Seven Creeks, just off the Hume Freeway about two hours north of Melbourne and 1.5 hours south of Wodonga. Its pull is the Kelly gang story — the 1878 bank robbery — plus a landscaped creek park and one good mill restaurant. Most travellers use it as a leg-stretch or a single overnight on the Melbourne–Albury drive.

Get around
Euroa is small enough to walk end to end in about 15 minutes. A car helps for the freeway, the Kelly sites on the town edge and the surrounding farmland; there is no local bus network worth planning around.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake or 'G'day' / 'How are you going?'; first names from the start; avoid: Formal titles; long answers to 'how are you'
- Rounds: Buy your round ('shout') when drinking in a group; avoid: Leaving before your shout
- Queues: Queue patiently; sitting in the front seat of a taxi when alone is common; avoid: Pushing in — it is noticed
- Country: Listen to Welcomes and Acknowledgements; use local place names when offered; avoid: Touching artefacts or photographing ceremonies without permission
- Beach: Swim between the flags; respect lifesavers' instructions; avoid: Swimming at unpatrolled beaches alone
- Humour: Expect teasing and understatement; laugh along; avoid: Taking dry sarcasm literally or boasting
- Walking and driving: Keep left on footpaths and escalators; wave thanks to drivers who let you in; avoid: Stopping on the road to photograph kangaroos
Scams and watch-outs
- V/Line trains stop here but paper tickets are required — this is outside the Myki zone.
- The Hume Freeway exit is not the town centre: you turn again after leaving the freeway, so watch the signs.
- Summer days can pass 40 °C and rural fuel and food options thin out after dark.
Very safe for a small rural town; the real risks are highway fatigue on the Hume, summer heat and wildlife on the road at dawn and dusk.
