Euabalong and Euabalong West
Skip as a base: one weekly train and a four-day coach make this a deliberate stop, not a place to build a trip around.
Euabalong and Euabalong West are two small localities in Cobar Shire, in the far west of New South Wales. The only real reason to stop is the railway station at Euabalong West, served once a week by the Broken Hill Xplorer, plus a coach that runs four days a week. There is no visitor infrastructure to speak of: no hotels, no restaurants, no fuel. Treat it as a leg on a longer Outback New South Wales drive or rail trip, not a destination in itself.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake or 'G'day' / 'How are you going?'; first names from the start; avoid: Formal titles; long answers to 'how are you'
- Rounds: Buy your round ('shout') when drinking in a group; avoid: Leaving before your shout
- Queues: Queue patiently; sitting in the front seat of a taxi when alone is common; avoid: Pushing in — it is noticed
- Country: Listen to Welcomes and Acknowledgements; use local place names when offered; avoid: Touching artefacts or photographing ceremonies without permission
- Beach: Swim between the flags; respect lifesavers' instructions; avoid: Swimming at unpatrolled beaches alone
- Humour: Expect teasing and understatement; laugh along; avoid: Taking dry sarcasm literally or boasting
- Walking and driving: Keep left on footpaths and escalators; wave thanks to drivers who let you in; avoid: Stopping on the road to photograph kangaroos
Scams and watch-outs
- No confirmed commercial accommodation, fuel or food in either locality: check before you commit.
- The Broken Hill Xplorer stops here once a week only; missing it means a long wait or a long drive.
- Summer heat is extreme and mobile coverage is patchy: carry water and tell someone your route.
- Unsealed roads and wildlife at dusk are the main driving hazards.
Remote and very lightly populated. The real risks are heat, distance between services and wildlife on the road at dusk; carry water, fuel and a charged phone, and check conditions before setting out.
