Estevan
One night, and only if you are driving Highway 39 to or from North Dakota. No bus, no train, no public transit: without a car, skip it.
Estevan is an 11,000-person energy and coal town in southeastern Saskatchewan, about 200 km southeast of Regina on Highways 6 and 39. It is the sunniest place in Canada by year-round sunshine, with a small gallery and museum, a regional history museum and sandstone formations at Roche Percee. There is no scheduled intercity bus and no passenger train, so it works as a one-night road stop or a border crossing base, not as a destination in itself.
