Escuintla
Skip Escuintla as a destination: it's a transport hub for the Pacific coast, not a place to stay. Use it to change buses to Monterrico or El Paredón.
Escuintla is a hot, busy market town and the main transport junction for Guatemala's Pacific beaches. There is little for a traveller to do here except pass through. The nearby Autosafari Chapín wildlife park and the pre-Hispanic sculptures in La Democracia are the only reasons to stop, and both are short visits from the highway.
