Englewood
Englewood, Florida
Give Englewood 2 nights if you want beach time on Manasota Key; 1 night is enough if you are just breaking the drive between Sarasota and Fort Myers.
Englewood sits on the Gulf in Southwest Florida, wedged between Venice to the north and Port Charlotte to the east. It is a small beach town, not a city break: the draw is Manasota Key, Stump Pass, Lemon Bay and a walkable strip of galleries and restaurants on Dearborn Street. There is almost no public transport, so a rental car is effectively mandatory. Two nights covers the beaches and a play at the Lemon Bay Playhouse; one night works as a stop on a longer Gulf Coast drive.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake and 'hi, how are you?' — reply 'good, thanks'; avoid: Treating the question as a real health enquiry
- Restaurants: Tip 18–22% and wait for the check; avoid: Leaving without tipping
- Personal space: Keep an arm's length in queues; avoid: Standing close to strangers
- Politics and religion: Listen more than you speak; avoid: Opening with hot-button topics
- Smoking: Smoke only in marked areas; avoid: Smoking near doors or in parks where banned
Scams and watch-outs
- Hurricane season runs Jun–Nov; check forecasts and evacuation zones before booking a summer trip.
- Afternoon thunderstorms are normal in summer — plan beach time for the morning.
- Red tide and rip currents can close beaches or make swimming unsafe; check local advisories.
- Parking at Manasota Key beach lots fills by mid-morning in season.
- Sales tax is added at the till; restaurant bills expect an 18–22% tip.
Englewood is a low-crime beach town; the real risks are water and weather — rip currents, red tide, summer lightning and hurricanes. Lock the car, keep valuables off the sand and check beach advisories before swimming.
