Eminence
Eminence, Missouri
Go for 2 nights if you plan to float the Jacks Fork or Current River; 1 night is enough if you only want the town square and a drive-through.
Eminence is a small Shannon County town on the Jacks Fork River, inside the Ozark National Scenic Riverways. People come for canoeing, tubing, horseback riding and hiking, not for city sights. Two nights gives you one full river day and one backup day for rain or low water. One night works if you are passing through on Highway 19.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake and 'hi, how are you?' — reply 'good, thanks'; avoid: Treating the question as a real health enquiry
- Restaurants: Tip 18–22% and wait for the check; avoid: Leaving without tipping
- Personal space: Keep an arm's length in queues; avoid: Standing close to strangers
- Politics and religion: Listen more than you speak; avoid: Opening with hot-button topics
- Smoking: Smoke only in marked areas; avoid: Smoking near doors or in parks where banned
Scams and watch-outs
- Cell signal is patchy outside town; download offline maps before you drive in.
- River levels change fast after rain; check with your outfitter before launching.
- Gravel roads can be impassable for low-clearance cars after heavy rain.
- Summer weekends fill cabins and campsites; book weeks ahead.
- Ticks and chiggers are common in tall grass from spring to autumn.
Eminence is a small, low-crime town; the real risks are river currents, flash floods after rain, heat in July and August, and long drives on dark, deer-heavy roads.
