El Arenal is a small town in the Tequila Valley of Jalisco, about an hour by bus from Guadalajara and 20–30 min from Tequila. It sits inside the UNESCO-listed agave landscape and holds several small distilleries, some in old haciendas. There is little to see beyond tequila, so most travellers use it as a stop on the Tequila Trail rather than a base.

Get around
The town is small and walkable, but several distilleries sit outside it, some in historic haciendas. A car helps; taxis are usually available on Av. Lázaro Cárdenas and are cheap. Do not drive after tastings.
