Eftimie Murgu
Eftimie Murgu (Rudăria)
Half a day, by car: see the Rudăria watermills, then drive on to Oravița or Băile Herculane. Not worth an overnight unless you want to hike the valley.
Eftimie Murgu (formerly Rudăria) is a small village in the Banat highlands, known for its centuries-old watermills on the Rudăria valley. Most were destroyed in floods, but a handful still operate, collectively owned by locals. The village has no shops, restaurants or accommodation — come for the mills, then leave.

- Conversation: Food, football, travel in Romania and family are safe topics; avoid: Dracula as the country's identity, calling Romanians Slavs, and careless talk about Roma or Hungarians
- Hospitality: Accept at least a taste of what you are offered; thank the host by name; avoid: Refusing all food and drink outright
- Queues and transport: Give seats to older people and parents with children; avoid: Loud phone calls in train compartments
Scams and watch-outs

- Some mills are private property; respect the shareholders' rights and do not enter without permission.
- Mobile phone signal is weak or absent in parts of the valley.
Safe. The main risks are slippery paths near the mills and lack of mobile coverage. No crime reported.
