Eastern Zambia is the Luangwa Valley: South Luangwa National Park for walking safaris and leopards, North Luangwa for a walking-only wilderness with almost no vehicles. The province is the least developed and hardest to reach part of the country, so most trips are one park, one camp, 3–4 nights, flown in. Chipata is the provincial capital and the practical overnight before or after the Malawi border. Lundazi and Chama are for travellers with their own 4x4 and time.

There is no luggage-forwarding service in the province. Travel with what you need; light aircraft to Mfuwe and North Luangwa enforce a soft-bag weight limit (commonly 15 kg) — check with your operator.
