Skip Durgapur as a sightseeing stop: one night only if you land at RDP or break the Kolkata–Asansol run. The barrage is the one reason to go.
Durgapur is an industrial city in Paschim Bardhaman, planned in the 1950s around the Durgapur Steel Plant, with the City Centre as its commercial core. There is little conventional sightseeing; the Durgapur Barrage on the Damodar and the steel plant tour are the two things a visitor actually does. Most travellers pass through on the Grand Trunk Road or the Kolkata–Delhi rail line, or use Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport (RDP) at Andal.

Get around
No metro and no reliable city bus network. Yellow-and-blue Ambassador taxis and auto-rickshaws wait at the railway station and fixed stands but run on negotiated flat rates, not meters — agree the fare before you get in. App cabs and bike taxis (Ola, Rapido) work in the centre. For the barrage, the plant or Andal airport, hire a car for the day.
