Durazno
One night is enough: walk the plaza, see the Rivera house and the river beach, then move on. Come in October for the festivals.
Durazno is a small inland capital of about 35,000 people on Route 5, halfway between Montevideo and Rivera. It began as a crossing on the Yí River and its name means "peach". The centre is walkable in an hour; the reason to stop is the October festival season, the Rivera museum and the river beach, not a long list of sights.
