Dunmurry
Skip as a base: Dunmurry is a Belfast suburb 15 min by train from the city centre. Come only for Colin Glen Forest Park and the DeLorean story.
Dunmurry sits between Belfast and Lisburn in County Antrim, and almost everyone passing through is on the way somewhere else. It is known for the factory that built the DeLorean, and for Colin Glen Forest Park, which runs up towards the Black Mountain. There is one hotel, a handful of takeaways and a shopping centre. Treat it as a half-day from Belfast, not a place to sleep unless you have a reason.

The centre is walkable in 15–20 min. Translink trains on the Belfast–Lisburn–Newry line stop at Dunmurry roughly every 30 min on weekdays and hourly on Sundays. Buses and the Glider serve the Colin Connect hub. Colin Glen's main entrance is on Stewartstown Road, about 20–25 min on foot from the village; the mountain and zip-line entrance is further uphill, so a car or taxi saves a long walk.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake at first meeting; 'hi' and first names quickly; avoid: Cheek kisses with strangers
- Conversation: Weather is a safe opener; understatement and self-deprecating humour; avoid: Asking about salary or class
- Queues: Join at the back; avoid: Pushing onto buses or trains before others get off
- Apologies: 'Sorry' is said constantly, even when not at fault; avoid: Taking it as an admission of blame
- Pubs: Buy rounds in a group; wait at the bar without waving money; avoid: Clicking fingers at staff
- Nations: Call Scots Scottish and Welsh Welsh; avoid: Calling the whole UK 'England'
Scams and watch-outs
- Colin Glen's two entrances are far apart: main entrance on Stewartstown Road, zip-line and mountain entrance on Colin Glen Road. Check which one you need before you set off.
- Some murals and memorials are on residential streets and private property: look, don't knock, don't photograph people's windows.
- Sunday service is hourly and shops shut early; plan the return train before you go out.
- The walk up into Colin Glen is steep in places and muddy after rain: trainers with grip, not sandals.
A quiet residential suburb; the usual city rules apply. Walk the Twinbrook estate in daylight, keep to the main roads after dark, and don't photograph people's homes or ask about the past.
