Give Dungannon half a day for the Hill of the O'Neill, then move on: it is a bus hub, not a base. Sleep in Moy or Belfast.
Dungannon is a market and commuter town of about 16,000 in County Tyrone, 40 miles west of Belfast at the end of the M1. Its one real sight is the Hill of the O'Neill, the seat of the Gaelic chieftains until the Flight of the Earls in 1607. There is no railway station and town-centre beds are scarce, so most travellers pass through on the Belfast–Derry or Dublin–Derry coach, or stay in nearby Moy.

Get around
The town centre is walkable in 15 minutes, but the Hill of the O'Neill, the retail park and the leisure centre are spread out. Buses 72, 75, 80, 261 and 273 serve the bus station on Beechvalley Way. The Argory needs a car or taxi.

- Do not board the X3 to Derry: it takes a different route and does not serve Dungannon.
A low-crime town; the real risks are rural roads without footpaths, dark winter afternoons and the last bus leaving before you expect.
