Duncan is a small Cowichan Valley town on Highway 1, about 45 km and 30–45 minutes by car from both Victoria and Nanaimo. It holds more than 40 totem poles in the downtown core, most within a short walk, plus two family attractions on its edges. The town itself is a half-day; the wider valley, with Chemainus, Cowichan Bay and the Kinsol Trestle, is what fills a second day. A car makes everything easier — buses run, but many routes are an hour or more apart.
