Dunblane is a small commuter town 35 minutes by train from Glasgow and about an hour from Edinburgh, built around a 13th-century cathedral that has not been a cathedral since the Presbyterians abolished bishops. The town centre is a cross, a high street and a river walk; the interesting sights take two to three hours, and the surrounding moorland holds a Jacobite battlefield and a World War II practice wall. Most travellers see it as a half-day from Stirling, or as a calm base with fast trains.
