Dunakeszi is a 44,000-person town on the left bank of the Danube, 25 minutes by suburban train from Budapest Nyugati and the first settlement of the Danube Bend. It has no old town and no hotel strip. What it does have: a riverside promenade with the remains of a late Roman harbour fortlet, a handful of churches, a gravel-pit lake for fishing, and ferry piers that cross to Szentendre Island. Treat it as a half-day from Budapest or a bike stop on the riverside path toward Szob.
