A car or a bike is the practical choice; the region is flat and roads are calm, with parallel cycle paths on the N855. Bus 20 links Steenwijk–Frederiksoord–Vledder–Diever–Dwingeloo toward Assen, and buses 19, 517 and 519 serve Wilhelminaoord, but stops sit on village outskirts, so expect walking. Bike rental is available in Frederiksoord.
