The honest verdict

Douala is Cameroon's port and its largest city: hot, humid and among the wettest cities in Africa in July–September. The sights are a short list in the old administrative quarter, Bonanjo, and the traffic between districts is slow and unpredictable. The trips that go wrong walk long distances in the heat, carry cash and phones in the open, or move around at night. Four clusters cover a first visit; a car joins them.
