Dothan is the chief city of the western Wiregrass region in southeast Alabama, about 68,000 people and the largest metro in that corner of the state. It calls itself the Peanut Capital of the World, roughly a quarter of US peanuts grow within 75 miles, and its sights sit a short drive apart. There is no public transit and no passenger train, so plan on a car. Most travellers pass through on US 231 between Montgomery and Panama City Beach, or stop for the National Peanut Festival in November.

Get around
No public transit: a car is effectively required. Downtown is walkable once you park, and the Ross Clark Circle loop carries most traffic. Expect heavy flow on the circle at lunchtime and after work.
