Use Đồng Hới as the airport and railway stop for Phong Nha, 45 minutes inland; sleep in Phong Nha town unless you arrive late or leave early.
Đồng Hới is a small coastal city on the Nhật Lệ River with a long beach and a ruined church and citadel gate from the war. Its airport and station are the gateway to Phong Nha – Kẻ Bàng. Since 2025 it is part of Quảng Trị province (check).
