Dolgellau is a small stone market town inside Snowdonia National Park, at the foot of Cadair Idris and the head of the Mawddach estuary. It is a walking and mountain-biking base, not a sightseeing town: two nights covers the mountain and the estuary trail, three if you add Coed y Brenin or a coast day. A car helps; buses reach Barmouth, Machynlleth and the coast.
