Dodge City is a small western-Kansas town (about 28,000 people) built on a short, loud cattle-town past. The sights are few and close together, so it works as a one-night stop on a US-50 road trip or an Amtrak Southwest Chief break, not as a destination week. Come for Boot Hill, the 1870s storefronts and the meatpacking-and-Latino present, not for a theme park.
