Dimapur
Use Dimapur as the rail and air gateway to Nagaland: one night to start or end your trip, not a base for longer stays.
Dimapur is the largest city in Nagaland and the main entry point by air and rail. It has a few sights — a large church, a park with lakes — but most travellers move on to Kohima or other Naga villages after a night. The city is practical for logistics, not a destination in itself.

- Dress: Loose clothes covering shoulders and knees; kurta tops are cheap and cool; avoid: Swimwear or shorts away from Goa beaches
Scams and watch-outs
- Alcohol is officially banned in Nagaland; it is available on the black market but buying or carrying it carries risk.
- Monsoon (May–October) can disrupt flights and road travel.
- Touts at the railway station and airport may offer overpriced rides; agree on a fare first.
Dimapur is generally safe for tourists, but watch for touts at transport hubs and avoid walking alone late at night. The alcohol ban means no legal bars; buying on the black market carries legal risk.
