Dataran Tinggi Dieng
Give Dieng one night, two at most: temples at sunrise, Sikidang crater and Telaga Warna fill a full day, and the 2,000 m cold is the point.
Dieng is a volcanic caldera floor at about 2,000 m in Central Java, with 8th-century Hindu temples, a live crater, coloured lakes and vegetable fields under plastic sheeting. It is cold at night, reached only by road, and best done as one overnight from Wonosobo, Yogyakarta or Purwokerto rather than a rushed day trip.
