Dennis is a mid-Cape town of five villages — Dennis Port, West Dennis, South Dennis, East Dennis and Dennis village — spread along Route 6A, Route 28 and the Cape Cod Rail Trail. It is the Cape's self-styled cultural centre: the Cape Playhouse, the Cape Cod Museum of Art and Scargo Pottery sit within a few minutes of each other on Route 6A. The beaches at Mayflower and Chapin are the reason most people stop. There is no public transport inside town, so a car or a bike decides what you can actually do.

Get around
No local bus network inside Dennis: plan on a car, or bring a bike for the Cape Cod Rail Trail. Route 6 is the fast east–west road (exit 78), Route 6A runs along the north shore and Route 28 along the south. Shoulders on many roads are narrow, so ride single file and use lights. Summer beach parking needs a sticker or a day fee — check the town website before you drive to Mayflower or Chapin.
