Daytona Beach
Give Daytona Beach 2 nights: one full beach day plus the Speedway or the Museum of Arts and Sciences. Skip it on a race weekend unless you booked months ahead.
Daytona Beach is a 37 km stretch of hard-packed Atlantic sand you can drive on, plus the Speedway that replaced the old beach course in 1959. It works as a 2-night beach stop between Orlando and St. Augustine, or as a race-week base. Outside events it is cheaper and quieter than the Orlando resorts 90 minutes inland.

Get around
A car is the practical default: A1A runs the length of the beach and I-95 and I-4 connect the region. VOTRAN buses cover the city and the airport for a low one-way fare, but service is thin in the evening. Taxis do not cruise for fares — call one. Beach driving is allowed in marked sections at walking pace and needs a permit.
