Davenport is the largest of the Quad Cities, on the Mississippi in eastern Iowa, about 2 h 45 min by car from Chicago and 3 h from Des Moines. It is a small-city stop, not a destination trip: a riverfront, the Figge and Putnam museums, and a compact downtown you can walk in an afternoon. Most visitors come for one or two nights, or as a break on an I-80 drive.
