Downtown Hartz Avenue is walkable in under 30 minutes; everything else — Blackhawk, the regional parks, the O'Neill site — needs a car or a bus. Most visitors use it as a quiet, low-risk base for the Tri-Valley and Mount Diablo rather than a destination in itself.

Downtown is walkable; the rest of town is not. County Connection routes 21 (weekdays) and 321 (weekends) run through downtown between Walnut Creek and San Ramon, roughly every 30-60 min on weekdays and hourly at weekends. BART does not reach Danville: connect at Walnut Creek or Dublin/Pleasanton. A car is the practical choice for Mount Diablo, Blackhawk and the trailheads.
