Give Daman one night, or a day trip from Vapi (12 km, 25–30 min by road): the two Portuguese forts and the seafront are a half-day, and the beaches are for sitting, not swimming.
Daman is a small former Portuguese enclave on the Gujarat coast, split by the Damanganga river into Nani Daman (north) and Moti Daman (south), each with a fort. It is 12 km from Vapi on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad rail line, so it works as a one-night stop between Mumbai and Surat rather than a destination in itself. Alcohol is legal and cheap here, which is why Gujarati visitors come; the sights are Portuguese churches, ramparts and two beaches.
