Dalton is a Berkshire mill town of about 6,800 people, 10 minutes east of Pittsfield on MA Route 8/9. Crane Currency has made US banknote paper here since 1801, and the Appalachian Trail runs through the town centre. Most travellers use it as a cheaper bed near Pittsfield, or as a trailhead and waterfall stop on the way to the northern Berkshires.
