Đà Nẵng is the central coast's airport and beach base: two or three nights for the Cham Museum, the Marble Mountains and Mỹ Khê, swimming February to August only, then Hội An by road and Huế over the Hải Vân Pass.
Đà Nẵng is a modern, spread-out city with one walkable centre on the Hàn River, a 10 km city beach and the airport between them. Its sights are short visits separated by car rides, and the sea decides the season: calm and warm from February to August, rough with rip currents and typhoons from September to December. Trips go wrong when a beach week is booked in November, when the Marble Mountains are climbed at noon, or when the Hội An transfer is left to a kerbside driver at midnight.

- DAD is in the city: 10–20 minutes by car to the river or the beach. The only real risk is a mini-hotel that locks its door before a late flight lands.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Pagodas: Shoulders and knees covered; shoes off in halls; do not walk between worshippers and the altar.
- Beach: Swimwear on the beach only; cover up in town, cafés and shops.
- Fishing beach: Mân Thái is a workplace: stay out of the way of boats and trading, ask before close-up photos.
- Tipping: Not expected at stalls; round up drivers; tip spa staff and guides directly.
- Paying and haggling: Haggle in markets and stone shops with a smile; never at food stalls with a posted menu. Hand money over with the right hand or both hands.
- Photos: Ask before photographing vendors, fishermen and worshippers up close; no drones over the airport, the port or military areas.
- Wildlife: Do not feed or touch the douc langurs and macaques on Sơn Trà.
- Voices and tempers: Raising your voice loses the argument: stay calm and walk away if a price will not move.
Red lines
- No swimming under red flags or after dark.
- No motorbike riding over the Hải Vân Pass in rain or without the right licence.
- Do not feed the monkeys on Sơn Trà.
Scams and watch-outs
