Cypress
Skip Cypress as a sightseeing base unless you want cheaper weekend beds near Disneyland: 1 night, car needed, 20–30 min to the parks.
Cypress is a residential and business suburb in north Orange County, not a resort town. It has no headline sights of its own; people sleep here because weekend hotel rates run below the Anaheim and Buena Park park-adjacent strip, and because the Los Alamitos Race Course sits on its edge. Come with a car, treat it as a bed and a launch point, and spend your days in Anaheim, Buena Park, Long Beach or the coast.

Get around
A car is the practical choice: sights and meals are spread along Katella Ave, Valley View St and Lincoln Ave, and sidewalks are thin. Rideshare works for short hops but adds up; buses run on the main arterials and are slow. Free hotel parking is common, which is part of why rates here undercut Anaheim.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake and 'hi, how are you?' — reply 'good, thanks'; avoid: Treating the question as a real health enquiry
- Restaurants: Tip 18–22% and wait for the check; avoid: Leaving without tipping
- Personal space: Keep an arm's length in queues; avoid: Standing close to strangers
- Politics and religion: Listen more than you speak; avoid: Opening with hot-button topics
- Smoking: Smoke only in marked areas; avoid: Smoking near doors or in parks where banned
Scams and watch-outs
- Almost nothing is walkable: plan on a car or rideshare for every meal and errand.
- Freeway traffic on the 405, 605 and 91 peaks 7–9am and 3–7pm; add 30 min to any airport run in those windows.
- Weekend rates are the draw; weekday business demand can push prices up.
- Summer afternoons are hot and dry — carry water if you are out at the swap meet or the track.
A low-crime residential suburb; the real risks are driving (freeway traffic, parking-lot dings) and summer heat. Standard US city sense applies after dark around the Katella Ave strip.
