The Crystal Coast is a 40 km strip of barrier island and small sound-side towns in Carteret County, North Carolina. Bogue Banks (Atlantic Beach, Pine Knoll Shores, Emerald Isle) is the beach half; Beaufort, Morehead City and Down East are the working-water half. Everything is a 15–40 minute drive apart, so pick one base and drive. A car is effectively required: there is no regular public transport, and the barrier island is reached by two bridges on NC-58.
