Cremona is a small Po valley city with a preserved medieval centre and a 112.5 m brick bell tower that defines the skyline. Its violin-making past, from Stradivari onwards, is the reason most travellers come. The historic core is compact enough to cover on foot in a day, so it works as an overnight stop between Milan and Mantua rather than a base.
