Wicklow is Dublin's mountain backyard: a granite chain with glacial valleys, monastic ruins and big gardens, all within an hour of the city. The coast towns sit on the DART and bus routes; the interior does not, so a car (or a guided day tour) decides how much of the county you actually see. Sleep on the coast or at Enniskerry, day-trip Glendalough and the passes, and treat the west of the county as a separate, quieter trip.
