Meath is Dublin's commuter belt with a Stone Age core: the Brú na Bóinne tombs, the Hill of Tara and Trim Castle sit 40–60 minutes from the city. Bus corridors reach Ashbourne, Navan, Kells, Trim and Slane, but the monuments themselves are off them — a car or an organised day tour is the difference between seeing two sites and five. Brú na Bóinne, Tara and Trim in one day without a car means three separate bus legs via Drogheda or Navan.
The Drogheda–Slane–Navan–Trim bus runs north of the Boyne; there is no public entry to the valley sights from that side.
Meath has no railway station; the nearest trains are at Drogheda, and Navan's promised line is still unbuilt.

County Meath: Rain falls year-round and the low limestone ground drains fast; May–June and September give the longest dry spells for outdoor sites. Winter daylight is short — last entry at the tombs lands before dusk.

The tombs and Tara are exposed hilltop and field sites: wind and showers decide how long you stay, so keep a wet-weather backup in Trim or Navan.
