County Louth is Ireland's smallest county and sits on the Dublin–Belfast corridor, so it works as one or two nights between Dublin and the north rather than a destination on its own. Drogheda puts you beside Brú na Bóinne and the Boyne battle site; Dundalk is the better base for the Cooley Peninsula and Carlingford. Trains and buses cover the corridor towns; you need your own wheels or a bike for the peninsula, Castle Roche and the Clogherhead coast.
