Kilkenny city is walkable, but the county's headline ruins — Jerpoint, Kells Priory, Dunmore Cave, Ballylarkin — are in open country with little or no bus service.
Kells Priory and several abbeys are unstaffed ruins in fields: no shop, no toilet, no shelter, and often no path. Wear boots.
Barrow Navigation lock and mooring status changes with water levels; check Waterways Ireland before planning a boat day.
