Carlow is Ireland's quiet inland county: a navigable river, a 6,000-year-old dolmen, two gardens and a handful of small towns. It sits on the Dublin–Kilkenny–Waterford rail and bus corridor, so it works as a one-night break on that run. There is no coast and no big-ticket sight, and beds are limited outside Carlow town — book before you commit.
