Corydon is a town of about 3,100 people in Harrison County, Southern Indiana, and Indiana's first state capital (1816–1825). Its compact downtown is a National Register historic district: a limestone capitol building, the Constitution Elm site, the Governor's headquarters and a small Civil War battlefield. Most of it is walkable in two to three hours; the surrounding cave country and the Ohio River drive are what turn a stop into a full day. It works best as a day trip from Louisville (about 30–40 minutes by car) or as a half-day break on an I-64 drive between Louisville and St. Louis.

You need a car. Corydon sits off I-64 at IN 135 (Exit 105); the historic district is small enough to walk once parked, and there is street parking around Capitol Ave. Caves, parks, the casino and the Ohio River overlooks are 15–40 min away by road, with no useful public transport.
