Corinth, Mississippi
Corinth
Give Corinth one full day for the Civil War sites and downtown, two if you add Shiloh battlefield; base here only if you have a car.
Corinth is a small northeast Mississippi town that mattered enormously in 1862: two railroads crossed here, and both armies fought for the junction. Today it is a compact historic downtown with a free National Park Service interpretive center, a handful of small museums and the Shiloh battlefield 30 minutes north. It rewards a day of driving, not a long stay.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake and 'hi, how are you?' — reply 'good, thanks'; avoid: Treating the question as a real health enquiry
- Restaurants: Tip 18–22% and wait for the check; avoid: Leaving without tipping
- Personal space: Keep an arm's length in queues; avoid: Standing close to strangers
- Politics and religion: Listen more than you speak; avoid: Opening with hot-button topics
- Smoking: Smoke only in marked areas; avoid: Smoking near doors or in parks where banned
Scams and watch-outs
- Summer heat and humidity are serious; carry water and plan indoor stops midday.
- Many small museums keep short or appointment-only hours — check before you drive out.
- Rideshare and taxi availability is limited, especially in the evening.
- Shiloh battlefield is in a different state (Tennessee); plan the drive and fuel.
Corinth is a small, low-crime town and downtown is comfortable on foot in the evening. The real risks are summer heat, deer and trucks on rural highways, and long gaps between services if you drive out to the battlefield.
