Go for one full day if you care about baseball, two nights if you also want the opera, the lake and the museums: the village itself is 15 minutes end to end.
Cooperstown is a lakeside village of about 1,800 people in Central New York, three hours by car from New York City and far from any expressway. Almost everyone comes for the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum on Main Street; the Fenimore museums, Glimmerglass opera season and Otsego Lake fill a second day. You need a car or a long bus ride to get here, and you walk once you arrive.

Get around
Walk. Main Street, Doubleday Field and the Hall of Fame sit within 10 minutes of each other, and parking in the village is limited and paid in season. For the Fenimore museums, Brewery Ommegang, Hyde Hall and Glimmerglass you need a car or a taxi; there is no useful local bus. Trolley-style shuttles run between the village and the lake attractions in summer — check the current route and fare locally.
