Columbus Grove
Columbus Grove, Ohio
Skip as a base: a half-day stop for the 1930s castle-style pool and the Clymer Wildlife Museum, then sleep in Findlay or Lima.
Columbus Grove is a village of about 2,200 people in Putnam County, northwest Ohio, founded in 1842 by settlers from Columbus. It sits just west of I-75 on SR 12 and SR 65, between Findlay and Lima. There is no hotel in the village, so it works as a two-to-three-hour stop on a road trip, not an overnight.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake and 'hi, how are you?' — reply 'good, thanks'; avoid: Treating the question as a real health enquiry
- Restaurants: Tip 18–22% and wait for the check; avoid: Leaving without tipping
- Personal space: Keep an arm's length in queues; avoid: Standing close to strangers
- Politics and religion: Listen more than you speak; avoid: Opening with hot-button topics
- Smoking: Smoke only in marked areas; avoid: Smoking near doors or in parks where banned
Scams and watch-outs
- No hotel in the village: plan the night in Findlay or Lima.
- The pool is seasonal and outdoor; it only makes sense in summer.
- Small museums and the schoolhouse open by appointment or on limited days: check before you drive.
- Winter ice and snow squalls on I-75 and SR 15 are the real hazard, not crime.
Very low crime; the genuine risks are winter ice on I-75 and SR 15, deer on rural roads at dusk, and long gaps between open businesses on Sundays.
