Cobalt
Go for half a day, not a night: the silver-boom museums and Heritage Silver Trail take 3–4 h, then sleep in Temiskaming Shores 15 min north.
Cobalt is a 1,100-person former silver town on Highway 11 in Northeastern Ontario. In the early 1900s it was the world's largest silver producer; today the mining museum, the 250-seat Classic Theatre and a self-guided trail through the old mine sites are the draw. Most travellers see it as a stop between North Bay and Temiskaming Shores, or as a base for the Tri-Towns.

Get around
The town core is walkable: museum, theatre, shops and the railway station sit within about 5 min of each other on Silver and Prospect streets. Temiskaming Transit links Cobalt to Temiskaming Shores hourly on weekdays and Saturdays, every 2 h on Sundays, no service on holidays (C$3.50 adult, C$3.25 student or senior 55+). A car is needed for the Heritage Silver Trail stops and Marsh Bay.
