Clinton
Give Clinton half a day: the School on Wheels railcar museum and the radar screen, then sleep in Goderich or Stratford. One night only if you are racing at Clinton Raceway.
Clinton is a Huron County town of about 3,100 people at the junction of Highways 4 and 8, 1 h 15 min by car from London and about 2 h 20 min from Toronto. It is Canada's old radar town and holds the permanent School on Wheels railcar display. Most travellers see it in two to three hours on the way to Goderich, Bayfield or Stratford, and use it as a cheap bed rather than a base.

Get around
A car is the practical choice: sights and the raceway sit outside the walkable core and there is no town bus. The centre itself is small enough to walk in 10 minutes. Regional buses do not serve Clinton directly; check GO Transit and intercity coach routes to Goderich, Stratford or London before you commit.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake; 'Bonjour' first in Québec; avoid: Assuming everyone speaks English
- Queues: Line up and wait your turn; avoid: Pushing in
- Apologising: 'Sorry' is politeness, not admission of fault; avoid: Loud confrontation
- Canada vs US: Treat Canada as its own country; avoid: Calling Canadians American
- Indigenous culture: Buy from Indigenous-owned businesses and ask before photos at ceremonies; avoid: Wearing headdresses as costume
Scams and watch-outs
- The railcar museum keeps short seasonal hours: confirm days before driving out.
- Race nights fill the few local rooms; book ahead or sleep in Goderich.
- Winter driving on Highways 4 and 8: snow squalls off Lake Huron close lanes.
- Small-town kitchens close early; last orders are often before 20:00.
Clinton is a low-crime rural town and safe to walk by day. The real risks are winter driving on Highways 4 and 8, deer on the road at dusk, and long gaps between open businesses on Sundays and holidays.
