Clinton-Camp Springs
Skip as a base unless you have business at Joint Base Andrews: one night, a car, and a half-day for the Surratt House Museum.
Clinton and Camp Springs are two unincorporated communities in Prince George's County, Maryland, wrapped around Joint Base Andrews. There is no walkable town centre, bus service is thin, and the sights are a historic house and a large county park. Treat it as a car-based overnight stop between Washington and southern Maryland, not a destination in itself.

Get around
A car is the practical answer: the two communities are spread along Branch Avenue (Route 5) and Old Branch Avenue, and pavements are patchy. TheBus (Prince George's County) covers local routes better than WMATA buses, but weekend frequency is low. Branch Avenue Metro station, on the Green Line, is under 10 minutes away by car and is the link to Washington.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake and 'hi, how are you?' — reply 'good, thanks'; avoid: Treating the question as a real health enquiry
- Restaurants: Tip 18–22% and wait for the check; avoid: Leaving without tipping
- Personal space: Keep an arm's length in queues; avoid: Standing close to strangers
- Politics and religion: Listen more than you speak; avoid: Opening with hot-button topics
- Smoking: Smoke only in marked areas; avoid: Smoking near doors or in parks where banned
Scams and watch-outs
- Bus service is limited, especially at weekends: check the last run before you rely on it.
- Sidewalks are missing on stretches of the main roads; drive or use a rideshare after dark.
- Summer heat and humidity are real; carry water if you walk the park trails.
- Prices in shops and restaurants are shown before Maryland sales tax is added.
Suburban and generally calm, but this is a car country: the main risks are road traffic on Branch Avenue, thin sidewalks after dark, and summer heat. Keep valuables out of sight in parked cars.
