Clifden is the market town of Connemara: about 1,250 residents, a Victorian main street, and the N59 running through it. Get around
The town is flat and walkable; everything on Main St and Market St is within 15 minutes on foot. For the Sky Road, Dog's Bay, Cleggan and Kylemore you need a car, a taxi hired by the day, or a guided tour. Bikes can be hired in town in season. Citylink 923 and Bus Éireann 423 stop at the library on Main St.

Clifden is a low-crime small town; the real risks are Atlantic weather, single-track roads and cold water. Tell someone your route if you walk the hills, and carry a waterproof.
