Clausthal-Zellerfeld is a small Upper Harz university town at 535 m, formed in 1924 from Clausthal and Zellerfeld, with about 16,000 residents. It is a base for walking, mountain biking and winter sport rather than a sightseeing city: one full day covers the museums and the culture mile, two nights let you add the water-regale trails and a Goslar or Braunlage day out. Zellerfeld is the tourist half; Clausthal is the university half.
